Barrier Cable Design


Barrier cable design is a critical aspect of ensuring safety in structures such as parking garages. These systems are designed to protect pedestrians and prevent vehicles from falling off edges of parking decks. When designing barrier cable systems, engineers must consider factors such as the geometric layout of the project, the impact loads from moving vehicles and the anchorage method of transmitting these loads to the main structure. The typical systems use strands that are prestressed to restrain the impact load of moving vehicles and must meet specific building code requirements for vehicle impact resistance.
